The pioneer of Impressionism who guided the young Claude Monet

　Eugène Boudin, a French painter often called a "pioneer of Impressionism," studied under the Barbizon School but quickly forged his own unique style, depicting familiar motifs such as the skies and seascapes of his hometown Normandy, and herds of cattle, with vibrant colors and light brushstrokes. His emphasis on working outdoors and his pursuit of capturing the fleeting "moments" revealed by the changing light and atmosphere greatly influenced the young Claude Monet, eventually leading to the birth of Impressionism.
　Boudin is known as a master at painting skies and seascapes, but his appeal doesn't stop there.30This exhibition, the first major retrospective in many years, will feature works depicting the lands and people Boudin loved, paintings he kept with him until the end, and personal sketches, among others.100Through these points, we will explore the multifaceted charm and true character of Boudin, who contributed to the development of modern landscape painting.

He was born in Honfleur, a port town in Normandy, and spent his youth in Le Havre.20At a young age, he opened an art supply store with a friend, and through his interactions with the Barbizon School painters who visited the store, he decided to pursue a career in painting. He spent much of his life in Normandy, primarily creating landscapes and seascapes. His style, which incorporated the expressive sky into his canvases and captured the subtle changes in light, earned him the title of "King of the Sky" from Camille Corot. He is also known as "Monet's teacher," having guided Claude Monet to outdoor painting.
