Ikegami Hyakuchiku-tei Collection
The Ikegami Hyakutaketei Collection is a collection of XNUMX works by the Matsumoto City writer Kisaku Ikegami (pen name Hyakutaketei,1890-1978) mainly collects modern literary materials221This collection is made up of many pieces. This time, we will be introducing works by artists who were active in the Museikai movement, such as Ishii Hakutei.
Museikai was a small group of Japanese-style painters that was active from XNUMX to XNUMX and held thirteen exhibitions. They initially focused on realism under the slogan of “Shizenshugi” (Naturalism), and later advocated for “Shin Soshoku Geijutsu” (New Decorative Art), emphasizing a decorative tendency.
Ishii Hakutei joined Museikai starting with its second exhibition, becoming the only non-founding member to join the group later on. Though often known as a Western-style painter, Hakutei also created many Japanese-style paintings. In conjunction with the museum’s special exhibition, “Ishii Hakutei: The Joy of Painting” (open until December XNUMX, XNUMX), we will introduce works by Museikai painters from the Ikegami Hyakuchiku-tei Collection. We invite you to enjoy works by Ishii Hakutei as well as Hirafuku Hyakusui, one of the group’s core members, and others.
