Ikegami Hyakuchiku-tei Collection
The Ikegami Hyakuchikutei Collection is a collection of 1890 items, mainly modern literary materials, collected by Matsumoto City writer Ikegami Kisaku (pen name Hyakuchikutei,1978-221). This time, we will mainly introduce the works of Ito Sachio.
Ito Sachio (1864-1913) was a poet and novelist born in Chiba Prefecture. He moved to Tokyo at a young age and studied tanka while working at a dairy. He was deeply impressed by Masaoka Shiki's "A Note for Poets" published in the newspaper "Nihon," and began studying under Shiki in 1900. After Shiki's death, he became a central poet in the Negishi Tanka Society, and founded the magazines "Ashibi" and then "Araragi." His students included Shimaki Akahiko, Saito Mokichi, and Tsuchiya Fumiaki, among others, who have colored the history of modern tanka. He also published novels such as "The Grave of the Wild Chrysanthemum" (1906), which were influenced by Shiki's descriptive writing.
This exhibition will introduce works and postcards by Ito Sachio from the Ikegami Hyakuchikutei Collection. It is believed that the collection of Ito's works was initiated through Ikegami Kisaku's close friend, Kurumizawa Kannai (1885-1940), who studied under Ito.
