Profile of Makoto Tezuka

Born in Tokyo in 1961. He started making films in high school and won many awards. Since then, he has been involved in a wide range of creative activities, including directing films and television, directing events, and writing books. In 1985, he made his commercial film directorial debut with "The Legend of the Stardust Brothers." In 1995, he produced Fujitsu's PC software "TEO: Another Earth," which became a hit, selling 19 copies in 50 countries. In 1999, "The Idiot" was screened at the Venice International Film Festival and won the Digital Award. In 2020, a digital remastered version commemorating the 20th anniversary of the release of "The Idiot" and "Barbarella," based on the original work by Tezuka Osamu, were released nationwide. In 2006, the TV anime "Black Jack" won the Tokyo Anime Award for Excellence in the TV category. He is the general director of the "TEZUKA2023" project, which uses AI to draw Tezuka Osamu's manga. He is also active as a member of Tezuka Osamu's family, serving as Honorary Director of the Takarazuka City Tezuka Osamu Memorial Museum. His works include "The True Face of My Father, Tezuka Osamu" (Shinchosha) and others.
