Ikegami Hyakuchiku-tei Collection

The Ikegami Hyakkutei Collection includes 23 tea ceremony utensils. Kisaku, who was originally a tea master, set up a tea room in his residence and entertained visiting literati and writers.

After meeting Yanagi Muneyoshi, with whom he had been in contact through the magazine Shirakaba, Kisaku became an active participant in the Mingei movement, and served as the first head of the Nagano branch of the Japan Mingei Association, which was established in 21. Kisaku's interest in Mingei also had a major impact on his collecting of tea-related items, as he added works by Hamada Shoji and Kuroda Tatsuaki, central artists of the Mingei movement, to his collection.

Mingei is a style of art that finds beauty in everyday objects used in daily life. This time, we will introduce tea ceremony utensils that are intended to be used at tea ceremonies. Please enjoy them together with hanging scrolls that are in keeping with the spring season.
