1. Experience the 70s and 80s through art

In the 1970s, people began to search for new values in search of a place to call home... After the period of rapid economic growth came to a close, where did people turn beyond material satisfaction?

In the art world, a number of ambitious works have been presented that seek to break through and overcome the sense of stagnation in society.

This exhibition will focus on works from the Matsumoto City Museum of Art's collection, focusing on works from the 1970s onwards.
Each work leaves a strong impact. We hope that you will be able to feel the energy of the artists and the culture and society of the time from these works, which appeal to you with their strong personalities.

2. The collection shows that "the older you get, the younger you become"

Matsumoto is a city that aims to be a place where everyone from babies to the elderly can live in safety and health, and to promote healthy life expectancy. Matsumoto City Museum of Art holds an open exhibition called "The Older You Get, the Younger You Get" every other year to pursue this ideal. The only qualification for applicants is that they must be 70 years of age or older.

In conjunction with the 6th "Older, Younger" exhibition, this exhibition focuses on works created by the artist after he turned 70. Even now that he has reached a point where he can look back on his life, he is still driven by the desire to complete the greatest work of art ever made, and continues to engage in artistic activities. His works offer a glimpse of the passion of a creator who strives for such heights.

Please enjoy this entry together with the past "The Older You Get, the Younger You Get" Grand Prix winners.
