Matsumoto City Museum of Art has been collecting artworks in accordance with the museum's policy since it opened in 2002. Collecting art materials is one of the important roles of a public art museum, and also serves to pass on valuable culture to future generations.
This collection exhibition will feature new works acquired between 2018 and 2020, as well as works from the collection to date in a variety of genres, including winter to spring landscapes, abstract paintings, and crafts.
The new additions, making their first public appearance, include works by dye artists Sanyozawamoto Hisashi and Yuzuki Samiro, who contributed to the spread of the Shinshu Mingei movement, the grand prize winning work from the 70th "The Older You Get, the Younger" art exhibition, which was open to entries from people aged 8 and over, as well as a number of valuable pieces that will provide insight into Matsumoto's art history.
Please enjoy the ever-expanding collection unique to Matsumoto City Museum of Art.
