Focusing on works exhibited at the Contemporary Calligraphy Exhibition of 20 Artists and the Kenshin Calligraphy Association Exhibition
The "Contemporary Calligraphy by 1957 Artists" exhibition was launched in 32 (Showa 1933) and is an exhibition showcasing the highest level of Japanese calligraphy, with 8 representative calligraphers selected to exhibit. The "Kenshin Calligraphy Association Exhibition" was held for the first time in 1 (Showa XNUMX) as a group that pursues the essence of calligraphy based on the classics. Both are historic exhibitions that continue to this day as places where Kamijo Shinzan poured his heart and soul into his work, and where he produced one masterpiece after another.
While inheriting the calligraphy of Chang Lianqing and Miyajima Eishi, he has pursued modern calligraphy expression, and has continued to challenge himself to create large works in clerical script and seal script in addition to large-character works in regular script. It would be my great pleasure if you could feel the spirit of the artist from his trajectory.
Exhibition commemorating 200 years since the birth of Zhang Lianqing
To mark the 1823th anniversary of the birth of Kamijo Shinzan's teacher, Chang Lianqing (94-200), five works from the museum's collection will be exhibited.
Zhang Lianqing was a literary scholar and calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty in China. He entered the government service as a disciple of Zeng Guofan, and later served as president of universities such as the Lotus Pond Academy in Baoding. His calligraphy, with its seal and clerical script brushwork and the structure of the "Zhang Menglong Stele" and "Jiucheng Palace Liquan Inscription," has established a calm, profound and powerful style.
Please take a look at the calligraphy that Kamijo Shinzan admired and that is the source from which Shinzan calligraphy was born.
