CarvingThe gaze that was extended was sensual and firm -
White-crested moon, black-sky stars, five-colored people. The prince of sculpture returns in triumph to his birthplace, Matsumoto.

Hideki Iinuma, Fighting Goddess

This is the first exhibition to introduce the full scope of the work of Matsumoto-born sculptor Iinuma Hideki (1975-), who continues to be active both in Japan and overseas.

Iinuma, who lives in the present, carves the image of a woman who is also living in the present. The models are dressed in dazzling outfits and equipped with cutting-edge makeup. Iinuma is inspired by a photo in a fashion magazine and carves out the inner self of the subject. When confronted with his sculptures, you may be struck by the feeling that your soul is being seen through. This is because the presence of the motif reaches a new height after being corrected by the viewer's sensibility.

He has created 2000 female statues since he started working on them around 300. Some are life-sized, others are tiny, just a few centimeters in size. The fact that each one of them has a certain presence is likely due to the artist's unwavering spirituality. The image of the Mokujiki monk who carved countless Buddhas from scrub wood in his lifetime comes to mind. It may be a little excessive to equate Mokujiki Buddhas with Iinuma's female statues. However, it is impossible to say that they are unrelated, perhaps because of the nobility of the female statues. And the source of nobility is not the way they are dressed, but the inner self that has inspired them by wearing them. The ultimate goal of Mokujiki monk is the salvation of the "soul" after the death of his body. What is Iinuma Hideki looking at?

These are also exhibitions that develop from the relationship between the "artist" and the "viewer" who live in the same time.
