Ikegami Hyakuchiku-tei Collection
The Ikegami Hyakuchikutei Collection is a collection of 1890 items, mainly modern literary materials, collected by Matsumoto City writer Ikegami Kisaku (pen name Hyakuchikutei, 1978-221). The core of the collection is the work of Masaoka Shiki and his disciples, but it also includes works related to literature and art and crafts.
Ikegami began collecting paintings after encountering the work of Japanese painter Hirafuku Hyakusui (1877-1933). Ikegami acquired one of the paintings, Willows by the Waterside, which Hyakusui produced and distributed to support the financial support of the tanka poetry magazine Araragi. Ikegami loved the painting so much that he wanted to acquire Hyakusui's masterpiece. From then on, he expanded the scope of his collection to include paintings.
In addition to Hyakusui, this exhibition will feature works by Takei Makoto (1875-1957) and Ishii Hakutei (1882-1957), two artists with close ties to Matsumoto.
