AndThe present and origins of Yayoi Kusama, something you can only experience here
Yayoi Kusama was born in Matsumoto in 1929. After graduating from Matsumoto Girls' High School in Nagano Prefecture, she went on to study Japanese painting at the Kyoto Municipal School of Art and Crafts. After solo exhibitions in Matsumoto and Tokyo, she traveled to the United States alone in 1957 and worked mainly in New York for about 16 years. Yayoi Kusama's individuality came to the limelight around the world. Her images of proliferating mesh and polka dots spread in various forms, including two-dimensional works, three-dimensional works, happenings, anti-war demonstrations, and independent films. She returned to Japan in 1973 and continued to create energetically even after moving her base to Tokyo. Her methods of expression are diverse, including painting, soft sculpture, collage, printmaking, environmental art, outdoor sculpture, video, and literature, and she has produced original works that far exceed our imagination.
Yayoi Kusama's childhood was a daily struggle with hallucinations welling up from within her mind. Drawing and capturing these images on small pieces of paper can be said to be one of the origins of Kusama's art. The images, which were constantly multiplying, eventually became her artworks and spread throughout the world.
Yayoi Kusama is a unique artist who left her hometown and took off into the world more than half a century ago. In recent years, her work has become even more brilliant. What is the reason why her works continue to attract so many fans? Yayoi Kusama's messages of "love," "hate," "life," "death," and "universe" run through her many works. Perhaps it is because her underlying voice, and sometimes her screams, deeply intertwine with the hearts of viewers and never let go.
Yayoi Kusama's rare talent is worthy of being called a genius. However, her achievements have not been easily achieved. After a long struggle, Kusama's spirit is roaring, freed from all constraints. Experience the trajectory of Kusama's spirit as she continues to impose herself as a pioneer in her hometown of Matsumoto.
