Saturday, September 19, 2020 – Sunday, November 29, 2020
Special Exhibition Gallery
Alphonse Mucha "Monaco, Monte Carlo" (detail) | 1897 Color lithograph Collection of the Mucha Foundation ©Mucha Trust 2020
80 years after his death, Mucha still lives on, transcending the ages.
Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), a representative artist of Art Nouveau.
The delicate and gorgeous plant patterns and female figures he created, which could be called the "magic of lines," continue to fascinate people around the world and influence artists of later generations, even 80 years after his death.
In addition to Mucha's posters and other graphic works, this exhibition will explore the origins of Mucha and the appeal of his work through his childhood works, his personal collection of books and crafts, and works that express his feelings for his native Czech Republic. Approximately 1960 pieces will also be on display, including illustrations from literary magazines in the Meiji period that are strongly influenced by Mucha's style, works that swept the graphic art world on the American West Coast and in London in the 250s, and works by Japanese manga artists and illustrators. These are noteworthy exhibitions that will explore the appeal of this painter who is loved across the ages.
