Ikegami Hyakuchiku-tei Collection

Chika Ogawa, Takasago, 1969

The Ikegami Hyakuchikutei Collection is a collective name for 221 items, mainly modern literary materials, collected by Matsumoto City writer Ikegami Kisaku (Hyakuchikutei) over his lifetime.
Many of the works were collected by Kisaku as he deepened his friendship with the artists. In some cases, Kisaku personally commissioned the artists to create the pieces. In addition, some of the pieces were uniquely mounted and tailored to Kisaku's own taste, making this a collection of gems created by both artists and collectors.
This time, we will introduce works from the collection that express the worlds that artists expressed in their later years.
The works of artists who lived through a tough era when the path to longevity was far longer than it is today, along with literature and art. They exude strength and vitality, and delight viewers with the light and witty expression that only comes with age.
In addition, Ikegami's relationship with other artists, who he started collecting in his 20s, has grown deeper and more intimate with each passing year. Please take a look at the works that convey this gentle friendship.
