The 70th Art competition by people who are over XNUMX The older we are, the younger we feel

October2019-December3 Saturday, March 2, 2019 – Sunday, April 7, 2019
Special Exhibition Gallery

8th Exhibition Grand Prix Ten'i Award Kenji Iechika "Thoughts"

The open exhibition "The Older You Get, the Younger You Get," aimed at people aged 70 and over, is now in its eighth year. This time, we received a record 8 submissions from 43 prefectures across Japan. From these, we will exhibit 589 works that were selected and awarded after a judging process.

The purpose of the first exhibition held in 2003 was to proclaim, "I sought in 'Okina' a world that is not gorgeous but beautiful, not huge but strong, not technical but beyond technical, another kind of art that cannot be reduced to painting methods or theories." Perhaps there is a world that can only be depicted by age, and I would like to see such a world. In response to this desire, people submitted works totaling 1 pieces over the eight exhibitions. Each time, Matsumoto City Museum of Art receives works filled with the artist's various thoughts, such as their life so far, their passion now, and their hopes for the future.

Matsumoto City has set the image of the city as "Matsumoto, a city that extends healthy life expectancy" and is undertaking various initiatives. In this exhibition, we hope you will be able to feel the power and brilliance of art, which has a major impact on extending healthy life expectancy. Please take your time to enjoy the free-spirited world painted by people over the age of 70.

*The term "Teni Muhou" refers to the fact that the robes of heavenly maidens have no seams, and therefore the writing and paintings are natural and unpretentious. It also refers to a personality that is unpretentious, pure, innocent, and carefree. In keeping with the purpose of this exhibition, the Grand Prize winner has been named the "Teni Award" and the runner-up the "Muhou Award."
