Through the eyes of Japanese and European collectors Royal Copenhagen and Scandinavian Design Art Nouveau to Modern

Saturday, July 2025, 7 – Tuesday, September 12, 2025 (Holiday) Saturday, July 12, 2025 – Tuesday, September 23, 2025
2th floor special exhibition Room

In Scandinavia, where winters are long, people value time spent at home and have incorporated excellent design into their daily lives. This exhibition focuses on Denmark and Sweden,19From the end of the century20We will explore the appeal of Nordic design, focusing on ceramics, silverware, and glassware from the 19th century.

Royal Copenhagen, which originated from the Royal Danish Porcelain Manufactory, quickly gained international acclaim for the production of high-quality porcelain and became a pioneer of Nordic Art Nouveau. Jensen began his career as a potter at Bing og Grøndahl, a competing kiln for popularity at the same time, and later founded Georg Jensen, which is renowned for its silverware.

Meanwhile, in Sweden, Rörstrand, the oldest pottery kiln in Scandinavia, produces elegant pottery. Glass crafts have been popular in the Småland region of Sweden for a long time.1950In the 1970s, glass makers such as Orrefors and Costa produced highly artistic glass works.

This exhibition features approximately 100 pieces from valuable private collections in Japan and Europe.200We have selected some of the most brilliant pieces of Scandinavian design to introduce to you. Scandinavian design has improved in quality while exploring the fusion of industry and art, and it remains fresh and appealing even today, when the importance of everyday life is being recognized once again. We hope you enjoy the richness and beauty of Scandinavian life along with the transition of design from Art Nouveau to modernity.
