Collection Exhibition
From late autumn to winter, with Sakurajima
July 2022, 10 (Tuesday) – October 18, 2023 (Monday)
Tuesday, October 18, 2022 – Monday, January 9, 2023
Tamura Kazuo Memorial Gallery
Tamura Kazuo (1904-97) left behind many works depicting the landscapes of Japan's highlands.
In order to fully depict the Japanese climate, he traveled around Japan from Hokkaido in the north to Kagoshima in the south, sometimes sketching in the bitterly cold mountains, and continued to create while feeling the atmosphere of the land. It seems that he did most of his research in Shinshu, but he also painted many oil paintings with Sakurajima as the subject.
Therefore, in conjunction with the "Kagoshima City Museum of Art Masterpiece Exhibition" (October 10th to November 8th), this exhibition will feature Tamura Kazuo's paintings of Sakurajima, as well as works depicting Tamura's favorite season of painting, from late autumn to winter.
