Ikegami Hyakuchiku-tei Collection
The Shoshoten Exhibition is organized by the Shosho-kai, which was founded by Shinzan Kamijo. Since the first exhibition in 1962, it has been held every year, changing the venue and format of works to accommodate the increasing number of exhibitors, and this year marks the 1nd exhibition.
This collection exhibition will coincide with this year's Calligraphy Exhibition (June 6-15, National Art Center, Tokyo), and will focus on works that were featured in that exhibition.
Every year, Shinzan presents one piece of Chinese characters and one piece of kana. His Chinese characters in particular have been diverse, showing the wide range of possibilities of calligraphy expression, from large characters in regular script full of spirit, to seal script works that pursue the intricacy of form, to clerical script works that are rhythmic like musical notes.
This exhibition will include representative works such as harmony style and cursive writing, allowing you to appreciate the charm of Shinzan's calligraphy style even more deeply.
The work that Shinzan Kamijo exhibited at the first Shozo Exhibition was a masterpiece called "The Voice of a Fierce Tiger." The roar he gave out over 60 years ago (his spirit towards calligraphy art) is still handed down to the next generation.
