Tamura Kazuo Memorial Gallery
Tamura Kazuo (1904-97) was a Western-style painter who would go into the mountains even during the coldest months of the year and continue to paint while communicating with the mountains.
After traveling to Europe in the mid-1950s to conduct research, he decided to focus his subject matter on Japanese landscapes, and continued to paint mountains and plateaus throughout Japan until the very end of his life.
Please enjoy the gradual change in Tamura's work over the latter half of his life, from his prewar works when he had not yet fully established his style, to his works when he went to Europe, and his later works, which showed simplified compositions and unique textures that distinguished them from realism. This time, we will be focusing on his beloved late autumn and winter landscapes.
