Tamura Kazuo (1904-97) was a painter who was familiar with the mountains of Shinshu and loved the Japanese land.
After turning 20, he visited the Tateshina Plateau and was captivated by its magnificent scenery. Since then, he has made Japanese plateau landscapes his main subject throughout his life. In particular, Tamura visits Shinshu almost every year, and has produced many works that use the landscapes of Shinshu as their subject. These plateau landscapes are a reflection of the harshness of nature and the warmth of the earth that Tamura felt with his own skin.
