October2019-December4
Saturday, April 27, 2019 – Sunday, June 9, 2019
Special Exhibition Gallery
The Unimat Collection is a large collection of Western art that was collected and built up over many years by Yoji Takahashi, founder of the Unimat Group, which operates a wide range of businesses including office coffee, nursing care, and resorts. This exhibition will introduce approximately 100 pieces selected from this exquisite collection that have never been exhibited in their entirety before.
How did painters perceive and approach nature and human figures in the flow of modern French art? This exhibition will provide an overview of the works on display, ranging from the profound expressions of Academicism, which was based on tradition, to masterpieces by artists who sought innovation, such as the Barbizon School, Impressionism, and the Ecole de Paris.
The exhibition will also feature glass works by René Lalique, which also form part of the collection. Enjoy the elegant and dazzling world of painting and glass art to your heart's content.
Ⅰ Barbizon School Painters - Yearning for Nature -
The tour will stay in the village of Barbizon and its surrounding areas, in a corner of the Fontainebleau Forest in France, and focus on a group of painters who portrayed naturalistic landscapes and genre scenes with great emotion.
II. From Academism to Impressionism: Tradition and Innovation
New trends were born out of the conflict between traditional values and innovative aesthetics. This chapter traces the history of art from classical painters to Renoir, a representative 19th century Impressionist painter.
III. Painters of the Ecole de Paris: The Poetic and Melancholic Feelings of the City
This exhibition will feature masterpieces by artists from the Ecole de Paris, who gathered in Montmartre and Montparnasse, Paris, from all over the world during the 1920s.
IV. The Sparkle of Art Deco - Glass Art by Rene Lalique -
Art Deco is a decorative art that became popular and developed from the mid-1910s to the 30s, mainly in Europe and New York. This exhibition will introduce the magnificent glass works of René Lalique, who was active during this period.
