FAQ
About the exhibition
Please tell us about the collection exhibition and special exhibitions.
Our museum has a "Collection Exhibition" that displays selected works from the collection at any given time, as well as works by world-renowned avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama, who was born in Matsumoto City; calligrapher Shinzan Kamijo; Western-style painter Kazuo Tamura, who loved the mountains of Shinshu; the Ikegami Hyakuchikutei Collection, collected by literary figure Kisaku Ikegami (Hyakuchikutei); and sculptor Munehide Hosokawa.
In addition, special exhibitions covering a wide variety of genres, both domestic and international, are held around four times a year, depending on the season.
About viewing
Can I re-enter the exhibition room?
Re-entry is only possible on the same day. Please present your admission ticket stub at the entrance to each exhibition room (this may not be possible depending on the exhibition).
Can I take notes in the exhibition room?
You may take notes in the exhibition room, but please be sure to use a pencil. In order to protect the artworks, we ask that you refrain from using pens with sharp tips (such as mechanical pencils) or pens with ink (such as ballpoint pens and fountain pens). If you need a pencil, please ask a nearby staff member.
Can I take photos?
As a general rule, we ask that you refrain from taking photographs inside the exhibition rooms.
If you wish to take photographs for newspaper or magazine coverage, please apply in advance. We may also hold exhibitions where photography is permitted. In such cases, we ask that you take photographs in a manner that does not disturb other visitors.
What is the proper etiquette in museums?
There are two important things to remember. The first is not to damage the artworks. The second is not to disturb other visitors who are also viewing the artworks. For elementary and junior high school students, we have instructed three viewing etiquette rules: "Walk slowly (in the museum)," "Talk in a low voice (in the museum)," and "Do not touch (the artworks)." We ask for your understanding and cooperation so that everyone can enjoy their visit. For more information, please see "Requests when entering the building."
Are young children allowed in the exhibition galleries?
Visiting an art museum from an early age is a great opportunity to experience culture and the arts at an early age. If you are visiting with small children, please hold their hands while viewing the exhibits.
In addition, in conjunction with special exhibitions and workshops, there are days when childcare workers are available to look after children aged 6 months to preschool age. For more information, please see "Art Appreciation Day for Parents."
Tell me about the monitoring staff.
In order to protect the artworks and the viewing environment for visitors, and to act as security personnel in the event of a disaster, monitoring staff are stationed in the exhibition rooms. If monitoring staff determine that their work is causing a nuisance to other visitors or that there is a problem with the safety of the artworks, they may call out to you, so we ask for your understanding and cooperation.
